Show 70 - May never be... Guys... we record 3 hours on Saturday morning and another 2 hours Saturday night... and I spent most of Sunday editing the show. Nearly finished with my editing, I started exporting the show segments out to wav format for copying to my Mac... and crash... not Blue Screen... but Audacity crashed! I tried to open the show file and it said it was corrupt.... Aaaaaaaha! I tried the backup file... corrupt also... I tried copying the files as is to the Mac... no go... Windows says the file folder and it contents are trashed. So on Sunday I start running Gibson Research's SpinRite... it has saved me many times... except for this one... SpinRite took over 24 hours to run on this huge drive. So now I am running Windows Check Disk... and it seems to have stop at phase 4, because the progress bar has not moved in an hour. So... with my trip to hartford only a few days away... I do think I will have a show for you this week. If I can manage to record tomorrow or Wednesday night with a co-host... I will try to get a show 70 replacement to you... otherwise I will post a re-run. -=Ryan |

Noooooooo!
I hate it when Windows does that, it is only when it is important that it happens too. Well good luck with it, Enjoy Hartford and have a few beers or two to get the frustration out. |

No worries, Ryan! This gives me a great chance to listen to all the early shows that I missed, that are on the MRCS Sweet 16 DVD set. What a blast from the past! I'm falling in love with the show all over again. The Blooper track is awesome. Anyone who has not yet purchased the Sweet 16 DVD set, you are royally missing out. :-)

Too bad!
Last time something similar happened to me I decided to go for Macs for all my (important) work and since then I never used Windows for serious stuff anymore. Also, I didn't have that kind of problems anymore. Hope you can recover in some way show 70, otherwise... don't bother with it. I'm already waiting for show 71 and feedback from Hartford. Ricky4208 |

www.Housatonicrr.comMan, that stinks. New backup procedures are in order, like saving a copy to separate media before processing, plus maybe more than one MRCS host should be recording from now on. Just in case. Don't feel too bad, Ryan, the fact it has only happened once in 70 shows is remarkable.
Well, we had fun recording on Saturday, we'll have to do the same topics again sometime as I thought there was good material covered. It's a shame if no one else ever gets to hear it, but that's life! One thing I know we covered at the end: for those of you who are going to be at Hartford next week, don't be shy! Come up and introduce yourselves, we all would like to meet as many of you as possible. |

You see! We where having too much fun Saturday morning on Stickam all that laughter corrupted the file.

Sorry to hear about the lost show files. I could really only catch about 1/3rd of what was being said, so I was looking forward to the posting of the show to catch both sides of some of the conversations. But, things happen, and having been customer support management for a few software companies and in the high tech industry for over 30 years, I do understand.
My thoughts... Enjoy Hartford next week and don't worry about this show. And for those who want, we can always talk in the forum about the topics which were in the show. |

model-railroad-hobbyist.com/blog/chrisNHHopefully check disk will recover some of the file. I think there are utilities that will let you extract usable portions of audio.

www.earlyrail.org/SLNWhen traveling taking photos, I always make sure I have at least 2 copies. Every night I transfer from the flash card to the computer hard drive. Before I erase the flash drive (if I have to), I back up the photos to either an external hard drive, my iPod or burn them to a DVD.
My websites and other sensitive data are backed up/cloned across at least 2 machines every night (Mac program called Synk, others work similarly). What I need to do next is offsite backups. dave |
