All you need to do to see a plan of Will's layout is search for his thread on his layout in "Layout Blogs".....It's imbeded in his very first post. Not too hard to find.
Here is the link to his blog, too - http://interlocking.wordpress.com/2009/02/08/decentralised-ops-part-iii-csx-do wntown-spur/ RAH |

I believe this is the URL to his latest plan: Will's Plan

bobcatts2bits.blogspot.com/All the links I could find/follow in the forum/blog pointed to revisions that Will was not talking about in the podcast. Since he specifically mentioned that he was sending a link for posting in the show notes, I thought I'd ask.

Hey it's great to hear the old crew back together again. I wanted to comment on the Paul Scoles' videos. I have the Running Trains DVD and it is very good. It has allot of good information on it and it's entertaining as well. The scenery on his layout is beautiful and in my opinion that alone is worth the price. This video has me thinking about scrapping the N scale project and going with an On30 layout.

Show #69: Great as ususal. One thing which was missed on track laying sub-roadbed segment was interfacing between modules for the folks who build the layout via modules or those folks who are in modular clubs. Our modular club uses homosote to allow a short piece of track to be spiked to join the modules. The homosote will take multiple spikings over a period of time.
As far as Paul's scenery DVD's go, I can only "strongly recommend / are must haves" if you are building anything which will have any scenery included. This is once case where a picture (movie) is worth more than 1000 words, a lot more!! In addition, Paul wrote and performs his own music on the DVD's if memory serves me correctly.. been awhile since I watched them.. been lost in 'operations' planning mode.... wonder why?? Although I'm not going to partake in the current e-mail contest, I'm hoping that many a folk will enter. I know that we all need to assist the 'team' in obtaining a major sponsor, so the more action, the better. Finally, show time for the next 'live' podcast?? I'm not finding the time in the show notes. Take care all, and again, thanks to the Team for your time and effort. |

Hey Guys.. Great show! Wish I could have been in on it... I have used most the techniques and materials discussed except the CalRoadbed. I have some of that but just haven't gotten around to trying it yet. Hope to be available this next week.... Alan

snery.comGood show - I enjoyed listening to it.
Ryan, re: sponsors. Let me get through this proposal at work and if you'd like I'll make a few phone calls. You didn't ask me for sponsors before, you asked for product samples - different folks. I think one of the issues may be model railroad manufacturers have gotten pretty savvy at print ads, and even the internet, but audio or tv ads is something they have no experience with so they're having trouble making a transition. I'm sure they also don't want to come off sounding "small time." BTW, re: bombarding manufacturers with emails. Email "campaigns" are about the least popular thing among model railroad manufacturers - they have enough people who have nothing better to do than spend time telling them what they should or shouldn't make. For planning a layout (which I am working on a shelf switching layout as a test bed) I picked up an Atlas track templates then use flex track to design and to see what will and will not work. I have recently got the fast track templates as well to tryout hand laying track. That way I can plan using very inexpensive methods.

www.alkemscalemodels.comOK, you guys did it to me again. I ordered both of Paul Scole's scenery DVDs based on your review. I ordered them from his web site, so there was no way to let him know I heard about it on MRC. They haven't arrived yet. Since I am new to O scale, I thought seeing some of his scenery techniques might be useful. I've always liked his layout. One of my top 10 IMHO.
There was an O Scale show in Baltimore last week, but I could not break contact with the book octopus so I missed it. |
