MRC Video 2 - Bad Ballast
Mon, Apr 28, 2008

MRC Host, Ryan, in Case of the Bad Ballast.

Note: Ballast is  mispelled in the title of the video on purpose. :o)

In this video I discuss the mistakes I made ballasting my track and make another attempt at ballasting the correct way.

Enjoy!

Ryan,

Great video, you might want to try pre-soak the ballast with a 50:50 mixture of water and 70 percent isopropyl alcohol. It helps keep the ballast in place when you spray the Scenic Cement. I like both the videos and the audio podcasts. The audio podcasts are nice when I'm working on the models and don't have to pay attention to the computer screen.

Thanks for another great video podcast. It looks like you have put a great deal of effort into the production values of the video podcast. I also like the fact that the video was on how to solve ballasting issues, as it was the first question I asked you guys.

The method you used to do the ballasting looks spot on, and your video will come in handy when i come around to giving ballasting another go.

Keep up the great work and I look forward to future video and audio podcasts

regarding your video vs podcast request. i prefer the podcast as i listen to it while working or commuting. The video segment is good if you have to show us some techniques like you did with the ballasting. If explaining through words might be confusng then a short video would help. video could be as a addon but not a regular occurance maybe?

Get this book:
Kalmbach How to Build Realistic Model Railroad Scenery (3rd Edition)
It shows in very easy steps how to do ballasting.
I got this and have had a blast building up my layout and not getting frustrated.
