I enjoyed this weeks show and I'm moving from being a fan to an addict.

At first when I was trying to catch up the longer shows were a bother but now that I am caught up the length seems fine. I find the chapters to be helpful for going back and listening to the interviews which I did several times for shows #31 and #32.

One thing that would be helpful in the show notes if it is possible to list additional URLs or products you guys or your guests mention.

Keep up the great work.

I got a kick out of Will's description of British locomotive kits. My grandmother went to visit her brother in York, England years ago. While there the two of them went to the annual York train show (Don't know if it's still being held), where she got to talking to a man about me and she ended up buying me a wonderful gift - a 4-4-0 kit by a company called Brassmaster. As far as I know, they are, or were, considered a company that made nice products.

I took one look at it, and put it back in the box. The damn thing didn't even have WHEELS!!!!!

Tried to order the wheels, but got completely mixed up when the fellow on the phone asked if I wanted "EM, P4, or . . . ?" thought he was reciting chemical equations!

Of course, it's a gorgeous kit, with lots of etched brass "frets" to build up the frame and details and a cast resin boiler (gosh, those things were tiny!) and one of these days I'm going to build it. Even bought a Wild Swan (think British Kalmbach) book on building etched brass engines.

Still need to figure out the damn wheels though . . . and other projects keep pushing this one to the back of the line.

Besides, my favorite oversea railroads are the C&L and the Listowel and Ballybunion!!! So, what does she bring her grandson -- an Irish American named "McGuirk"?? A British train named "King George." Uh!!!

I have a couple corrections to some of the comments I made during my conversation.

I incorrectly stated that Woodland Scenics carries Heki Trees. I meant to say, Scenic Express sells those trees.

The company that sells the ballast I mentioned is Arizona Rock and Mineral. They are still in business. Their website is http://www.rrscenery.com/azrock3HO.html

If anyone has any questions, you can email me at info@alkemscalemodels.com

Marty, the reason that UK kits don't provide wheels it because all of the standards - essentially if you want to get your kit running on the track you use for your HO models then you need to buy wheels with an OO profile and OO axles. They're normally supplied loose so you'll need a brass back-to-back gauge, and a gearbox - that you can find here:
http://www.scalefour.org/ag/ag4.htm

You'll probably also need a motor too - just google for Mashima and you'll find them there too.

Brassmasters is the company I bought my detailing pack for my loco from too, actually!

I think #33 was the best show so far.

Bernie Kempinski interview was great. Loved the discussion of eastern vs. western scenery techniques as I will be modelling western Canada. Long shows are fine with me... I have a 40 hour work week to listen to the podcasts, so the more content the better. The extra pioneer content is great too.. keep it coming!.

Hi Guys!

Recall your reference to my post from the previous show about the possibility of movie reviews....I was thinking in terms of theatrical movies.

I would be interested focusing on the railroad content. There is no need to spend more than a paragraph on the plot, cast of characters, or critical evaluations. That's easily obtained elsewhere.

My interest would be in hearing details about the railroad content. For instance, in the movie "End of the Line" there are shots of a transfer table, interior locomotive views, sites along the right-of-way (presumably along the Cotton Belt), the model railroad of the railroad companiy's Chairman of the Board, etc. The extent of realism and errors would also be of interest. Tell me about the railroad content that might make me want to watch the movie just for that!

I don't mind the length of your current broadcasts. Seems to me a review could be done within five minutes and not necessarily every broadcast: once or twice a month would be fine.

Thanks!

Mark Pierce

In reference to the comment about guests, let me know what you need for being a guest. I can toss in info about detailing.

Oh, calling you tomorrow morning so you know how to pronounce my name... As for that, most automated English pronunciation programs pronounce it correct.

These long shows are nice, as I can let it play while I work on some projects. These La Belle kits I'm building to model Copper Range passenger cars are slow in progress.

Heisler:

Shay :

Climax:

Notice they're all similar. A Shay is all direct drive with shafts to the outside (one side only IIRC). Heisler is direct drive geared down the center with equalizing bars/drive rods on the outside. Climax units have inclined cylinders to a drive shaft.

I enjoyed the show and especially the interview.

One small thing I noticed.. I burned the show to CD (two CDs, actually) to listen to on the way to a friend's op session. I got to his house, about 30+ min away, before I heard anything but chit-chat about the show, posted comments, and the push for donations. Perhaps this is giving the impression that the shows are longer then needful. I don't mind the chit chat.. but perhaps you need to find a way to mix it in such that one is not spending the first 30 minutes of the show waiting for the show to start.

I also suspect you lost a listener when you played the guy's voice mail complaint about the length of the show then followed it up with a piece basically mocking people who think the show is too long. I learned the lesson there.. don't leave a phone message!

I was able to listen to most of Bernie's interview on the way home and it was good stuff. I also like Will's piece on the UK legislation allowing the first railroad.

We should have left the Steve Klimkiss call out- we certainly don't want people to think they're going to be mocked- especially on the air. I am not without fault in the matter and my humblest apologies are due.
